Memorial Lost and Found
With the changing weather I am sure many of you are looking for coats and sweatshirts for your children, please look here.  Our Lost and Found is full.   Also, if your child has brought home coats or sweatshirts by accident that are someone else's,  please have them return the items back to school. Items tend to be picked up after recess or lunch and at times get mixed up.
Thank you.

Development of early-literacy skills has benefits beyond academics, assert researchers at the University of Washington. They studied children for five years and found that students whose parents read to them at home improved both their progress in school and in life skills such as self-regulation and goal-setting.

Memorial Community Council
We will be meeting on Thursday November 30th at 8:00am.  This is an opportunity to sit with administration and a teacher representative to discuss community issues and how they relate to the school.  Please feel free to join us if you are available.

WHAT IS VAPING?
November 27 from 7 - 8 pm at the Bedford Public Library
Bedford Police Chief John Bryfonski, Officer “Spike” Donahue and Officer Danielle Nightingale, School Resource Officers at Bedford High School/Ross A. Lurgio Middle School and McKelvie Intermediate School respectively, will give you the facts about vaping. Can you smell it?  Can people vape marijuana? Can people vape other substances?  What does a vape look like?  Where do people get vapes?  Is it legal for kids to vape? In addition, Dr. Joseph Hou, Pulmonologist at Catholic Medical Center, will also provide clinical information on vaping.  Is it addictive?  Is it harmful?  How does it affect young people?  How does it compare to smoking? The 40 minute presentation will be followed by a 20 minute question and answer session.  Get your questions about vaping answered!

Holiday Help
The holiday season is approaching and the excitement is building, as we look forward to happy celebrations with family and friends. This is a busy time for many of us, and children can sometimes become overwhelmed. Eating a healthy diet, getting extra sleep and having some quiet time may help your child to stay healthier.

We recognize that holiday anticipation may not be joyful for all students and families, and instead brings stress, fear and even sadness.  As always, our school community is here to assist you, if needed.   Please let us know if you are in need of assistance.  Through the generous donations of others in our school community, we can help.  If you know someone that may be having difficulty, please encourage them to let us know.  All assistance is confidentially given.  We hope that all Memorial children who celebrate this time of year can experience wonderful memories to share with friends and family.

For those families who would like to help support us during this time of the year, we truly appreciate your generosity.  What a wonderful gift you are teaching your own children!  Donations may be sent into the nurse’s office.

Food Drive
In conjunction with our Kindness and Gratitude month, we will be conducting our annual "Stuff the Turkey" Food Drive.  The drive will begin on Monday, November 6 and will end on Friday, December 1st.  Proceeds will go directly to the Bedford Community Food Pantry at Bedford Presbyterian Church. We greatly appreciate any canned or boxed donations you are able to give. Items such as canned proteins (meats, fish, vegetables, etc.), pasta, rice, peanut butter, jelly, rice, flour, sugar and cereal, are especially needed.  If you would like to join us in helping our Bedford pantry, please send the items into school with your child.  If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Pleat, X-23206. Thanks for helping us support Bedford families!
