Tripod Survey Information
Between October 7th and October 25th, the district will administer the "Tripod Survey" to students in grades 2 - 12 (grade 1 will participate in the spring). For the elementary schools, this includes "specials" (i.e. art, music, library and physical education) as well as enrichment. This survey asks for the students' perspectives on our teaching practices. All survey responses are anonymous and confidential. The purpose is to use this feedback to help our professional staff continue to improve. This year, parents were able to provide permission for their child to take the survey through InfoSnap registration. If you opted your child out of the survey, please know that we will make other arrangements for him/her during the time that his/her class is taking the survey.
If you would like to view the surveys, please click on the links below.

Bedford Fire Department’s Open House
If your family is interested in attending the Bedford Fire Department’s Open House on Tuesday, October 8th, please see THIS FLYER for more information.
Box Tops News:
Box Tops Update: If you haven’t already heard, the box tops program is going digital! Over the next few years the clipped box tops are going to be phased out on the product packaging. What this means is that you can still clip and send in box tops to your child’s teacher as well as earn money on the app. It is definitely going to be a transition over to the digital program and the kinks are still being worked out.

Memorial’s Box Tops coordinator has received $80 of clippings and $15.40 on the digital app since the start of the school year. It’s been a slow start and we need all your help to reach our year end goal of $1200. Remember this money goes directly to the school for the teachers and our kids. The fall submission deadline is November 1st.

Visit the App Store on your smart phone and download the Box Tops for Education app and select Memorial as your school of choice. Let your family members know as well and they can also contribute to Memorial’s earning. Scanning your receipts takes seconds once the app is set up. Your receipts must be scanned within two weeks to earn the credit. Box Tops has also created a credit button. When you scan your receipts you can click on the credit button on the bottom of the screen, add a teachers name, and that credit goes to the class earnings. This is all a great deal of information to take in and if you have questions you can also visit www.boxtops4education.com

Bus Plan
Riding the bus to and from school is a great opportunity for all of our students. We encourage parents to have a conversation with your child regarding the rules of the bus. Further, it is important to create a plan, as a family, for what your child should do if there is no adult waiting for them to get off the bus. Especially with our younger students, the bus drivers will not let them off the bus if no one is waiting. In these cases your child may be returned to the school. Having a backup plan in place will allow for a smooth and seamless bus ride for all. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Our preschool students will be brought out to cars in front of the building by adults on duty. As for the rest of you picking up your children we ask that you park in available spots in our front parking lot or in the church parking lot across the street. Anti-Bullying Partnership Agreement
Please keep an eye out for a document coming home with your children this week about bullying. Last year’s District Bullying Task Force developed a Partnership Agreement among students, teachers, and families to better understand and address student conflict, and what is and is not considered bullying. We are asking all families to read, discuss, and sign this document to help ensure a happy, safe, and nurturing environment for all. Please click HERE if you would like an electronic copy of that agreement.

Bus and Lunch Account Questions
Many parents have questions about adding money to their child's lunch account or about their bus stop and times. Click HERE to add money to your lunch account and HERE for bus stops and times. Please know that the first week of school busses are slightly delayed as routes are being adjusted and dismissal procedures are being learned.

Strings Program is coming back to Memorial
If you child is interested in learning how to play the violin, viola, or cello, The Manchester School of Music will be offering classes here at Memorial School. Click HERE for more information.

Classroom SupportWe are sharing to let you know about classroom programs at Memorial School that will enrich your child’s learning experience throughout year. Teacher resources are continually reviewed and organized to allow for the most comprehensive program for students. During instructional portions of the day, a special educator may be working alongside and in conjunction with your child’s classroom teacher. The help can be in the classroom, and at times, outside the general classroom setting. This type of approach is referred to as a Team Instruction model.

Together, these teachers bring to the classroom a broad range of expertise in all subject areas. This approach allows us the flexibility to work with students in small groups or individually as needed. Typically, both teachers will work within the classroom with students, but may work outside the classroom when appropriate.

We anticipate an exciting year of educational challenge and growth for all!

Protect 180
Each School Day is Important:
As we enter a new school year, I would like to remind folks to make every effort to maximize instructional time for students and teachers. Simply put, all stakeholders should work to protect the the learning for days when school is in session. Everyone has a role to play:
  • Students can arrive at school on time each day and be prepared to put forth their best effort.
  • Parents can closely monitor student attendance and avoid scheduling vacations and appointments during the school day.
  • Teachers can strive to provide high-quality lesson plans and assessments to ensure that students are actively engaged every single day.
  • Principals and assistant principals can work proactively to eliminate interruptions and distractions during the school day.
  • Support staff can make sure that facilities are well-maintained and equipment is functioning properly.
  • Central office administrators can avoid pulling teachers from classrooms for workshops and meetings unless absolutely necessary.
Research shows that access to high-quality instruction is the best tool for improving student achievement; therefore, I encourage everyone to Protect the Learning.

Automated Attendance Call

Parents of 3rd and 4th graders
Chorus is an after school singing ensemble that meets once a week on Thursday afternoons from 2:30-3:00pm in the chorus room. Chorus has two large performances during the school year (typically in January and May). Chorus is open to all interested third and fourth graders. If your child decides to participate he/she will need to be picked up at 3:00pm in the Memorial cafeteria, or signed up to return to the after school program once the rehearsal has ended. (If your child is going into fourth grade and was not in chorus last year they are still more than welcome to join chorus this year! We would love to have them!!!)

NEW THIS YEAR: Chorus sign-ups will be ELECTRONIC. In an effort to save paper, as well as organize email lists better this year, I have decided to make chorus sign-ups electronic. If you are interested in signing your child up for chorus, please fill out the online form below NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH. The first chorus rehearsal will take place on Thursday, September 12th. Last year’s choir reached around 80 - 3rd and 4th graders, which was incredible!!! I would love to have those numbers again this year!

Classroom Support
We are sharing to let you know about classroom programs at Memorial School that will enrich your child’s learning experience throughout year.

PTG News
MEMORIAL SCHOOL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: The Bedford PTG is excited to introduce a faster, paperless way to share your information for volunteering at Bedford schools. Instead of sending paper forms home with students we have created a Volunteer Google Form for each school.

Click here: Memorial School Online Volunteer Form to access the Memorial PTG Volunteer Form for the 2019-2020 school year.

Simply fill out the Google form for Memorial and you will be informed of all the great opportunities throughout the year. You can help at the events that interest you and fit into your schedule. Schools must receive a completed Google Form in order for you to volunteer at the school. If you need any assistance with the form please contact your Memorial School Volunteer Coordinator Danielle Brimblecom at memptgvolunteercoordinator@bedfordnhk12.net. Please complete the Volunteer Form by September 9th.
