Field Day
Field Day was so much fun for our students. Thank you for you to all our volunteers who helped make this year’s Gr. 1-4 Field Day a success. It was a great day for celebrating physical activity, working with and supporting others, and having tons of fun!! So many people throughout our community played a role in making this event a special experience for our students.

Destination Imagination Congratulations!

Bedford DI in Top 10!!
Last week four teams from Bedford DI traveled to Kansas City as part of Team New Hampshire for the Global Finals tournament.  All 4 teams brought a stellar presentation finishing Top 40.  However, a shout out to The Mindblowers from McKelvie Intermeidate School who placed 8th out of 65 teams from 17 countries, and made it onto the Top 10 Champions of the World. This is a tremendous achievement for both Bedford and New Hampshire DI. Bedford DI are so proud of all of our teams who brought solutions to both Regionals and State tournaments. We would like to thank all of our volunteer adults who acted as Team Managers for these kids this season, as without them, these teams would not exist.  To all our students, thank you for a wonderful season of collaboration and creative problem solving.

Bedford DI would like to thank all of you who donated and helped with fundraising efforts.  Also, please note that the Ecosmith Shoe Drive finishes up today, but you can continue to drop shoes, clothing, all fabrics, and stuffed animals in our Ecosmith bins year round in the school parking lots!!!!

Girls on the Run Food Drive
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Girls on the Run Team 2 Food Drive!  It was a huge success!  We have 18 large boxes of food headed to the Bedford Food Pantry!  Thank you!

Memorial Day Tribute
In 1945, the town of Bedford voted to establish a memorial for the young men of
Bedford who were serving in the war.  Three years later, in 1948, the committee had
not found suitable land nor the money to pay for the memorial. Then, in the spring of 1955, construction began on a new school to reduce overcrowding. The school opened in September of 1955, ten years after the town had decided to pay tribute to our soldiers. It was decided to name the school Memorial School as a tribute to all soldiers from Bedford.

Memorial Day is a holiday in which we remember those soldiers, men and women, who died in active military service. President Ronald Reagan is credited with reviving the practice of honoring Memorial Day and its meaning.

To commemorate Memorial Day, all of our K-4 students walked to the cemetery Thursday morning. They placed flags along the edges of the roadways and the whole school sang a Patriotic song together in order to pay tribute to the 384 veterans buried there.

From Mrs. Pleat’s Desk…
This month, students will learn that many things in life require patience. Whether it be  for our turn, waiting to speak or waiting for something to happen, we need to understand that we can’t always get what we want right away. In today’s world of technology and instant gratification, children are less apt to have the skill of patience and waiting. Children without patience and the ability to wait have greater difficulty powering through difficult tasks. Patience is therefore linked with last month’s message about perseverance, since not giving up requires us to be patient and wait for the results. We can teach patience to children by regularly creating situations where they have to wait. Through practice, the important life skill of patience can be developed.
