Memorial Day Tradition Continues
Our students did a fantastic job this morning as they placed flags throughout St. Hedwig's Cemetery.  There are a total of 401 veterans buried there who we were able to honor.  Special thank you Rachel Cook, playing violin, and Jack Purcell, playing trumpet, who treated us to  patriotic music that concluded with a rendition of Taps.  

A Note from the Health Office
If your child has seasonal allergies please get a note from your child's pediatrician to the school nurse to keep on file. The following is link is from the Allergy/Asthma network - resource for parents and then vaccine FAQ for parents and guardians and Recommendations for people who are fully vaccinated when around others from outside the household. 

Please make a plan to pick up your child's medication  from the school nurse on June 14th between 8-2pm.  

Please send in any updated annual physical & immunization records to the school nurse.

Bedford Food Pantry Summer Assistance
With the end of the school year right around the corner, the Bedford Community Food Pantry will be providing food boxes to students over the summer, as needed.  These boxes, containing 28 meals and including items such as cereal, mac and cheese, peanut butter, tuna, etc, are available for monthly pick up by parents.  Boxes can be picked up week days from 8a to 2p at Memorial School, or during the weekly Bedford Community Food Pantry hours from 9a to 11a on Saturdays.  Shopping for fresh food and other non-perishables is also available on Saturdays at the Food Pantry, which is located at 4 Church Road in Bedford.

Memorial's Wellness Team helps provide the Memorial community of parents and teachers with support and tools that we're using to educate our students. COVID-19 Relief to families in need

Although there might be light at the end of the COVID19 pandemic tunnel there are still organizations and people in our community that continue to need assistance. Bedford Presbyterian Church will continue to offer additional resources during this difficult time.

Annual Memorial Day walking field trip
On Friday May 28th or students will continue the tradition of placing flags at St. Hedwig Cemetery to honor the veterans who are buried there.  Differences this year will be that we will be walking over as individual grade levels to place flags and we will not be singing together but instead listening to a performance of Taps.  We are looking forward to this tribute to our veterans.

Reminders

DONATE YOUR OLD SHOES, PURSES AND BAGS
Destination Imagination are having their special shoe/bag drive through Ecosmith Recyclers. From now until end May, you can donate all your old paired shoes, boots, sneakers, heels etc and your purses/bags too. (no flip flops or cleets) Ecosmith no longer accept old shoes that cannot be reworn or broken zippers. It is important that the special blue or green bags are used and these can be found in the school vestibule, OR thru our DI Coordinator, Marie Russell. You can deposit the bags directly into the bin in the school parking lot. Note: if your bag is too full, it will not fit in the slot. Also, if you find the bin full, please let Mrs. Russell know. We would also like to remind you that, clothing, fabrics, stuffed animals etc can always be donated year round in this bin. As always, Bedford DI appreciates your support. Masks at Recess
As of Monday, May 10th masks at recess became OPTIONAL.

Rationale:
- State & County numbers are trending down and Bedford numbers are stable
- Recess is outdoors and allows for ample physical distancing
- All students self-screen prior to attending school and are therefore asymptomatic
- All employees who want to be vaccinated have had the opportunity to do so
- Per DHHS recommendations, we will continue to REQUIRE masks in the buildings.
- Team sports will continue to follow NHIAA protocols.

Invention Convention Results

We are happy to share that we had many Memorial students compete in this year's virtual Northern New England Invention Convention. The judging took place on May 2nd, and 10 Memorial students won awards.  Nine of these students qualified for the National Invention Convention, which will take place virtually in June. Congratulations to all of our Memorial inventors!

4th to 5th Grade Band Information
The week of May 3rd, 4th Grade students viewed a McKelvie Music Department video in their general music class. Following the video, students will be bringing home a packet of information for 5th Grade Band. The sign up for 5th Grade Band will be live on this website after 8:00pm on Friday, May 7th.

Preschool Openings Still Available

There are still spots available for the 2021-2022 School Year in the Bedford Early Education Program (BEEP) at Memorial School. There are openings in our 3 year old programs, and our 4 year old afternoon program. For registration information, please visit the Memorial School website, and click on Preschool (BEEP) under the Academics tab, or pick up a registration packet at Memorial School!

Important reminders from the Health Office:
Please continue to answer the questions on the Daily Screening Tool each day before sending your child to school. If your child exhibits any of the symptoms on the screening tool, your child should stay home and it is strongly recommended to have your child tested.  Your child may return to school once your child is feeling well, 24 hours symptom free without fever reducing medication and has a negative covid test.  Please check with the school nurse to be cleared to return to school.

Allergy season is upon us with the warmer days we have been having. If you child has seasonal allergies, please get a note from your child’s pediatrician for the nurse to keep on file for this school year.  DHHS recommends testing for any new or unexplained symptoms.
