Spirit Day
There is no Remote Spirit Day this week.  Our next scheduled day is Friday, May 8th.  Disney Day!

Helping Students Connect with Each Other
We're hearing more and more that our students are looking for opportunities for socialization. Since the purpose of our Google Meets continue to be academic and Google Meet is a tool for teachers to utilize but not a requirement, we'd like to share the contact information for other parents within your child's grade level. If you'd like to participate, please share your contact information with this form.

Library Books Return – MAY 8, 2020
We will be collecting MEM library books from families on Friday, May 8th. Mrs. Schwartz has outlined the procedure HERE. If your library books are at school please don't worry, we will collect those when we clean out desks and cubbies.

Integrated Arts (Grades 1-4)
Please remember that Integrated Arts classes (art, library, music and physical education) are required classes (and are graded in grades 3 and 4 as having met expectations by their participation). Students need to be checking in for attendance on their “special days” and participating in the lessons/assignments. If you have any questions, please contact the teacher(s) directly.

Google Meet Uses
Some of our teachers are using Google Meet as a platform to interact with their students.  You, as a parent, will be notified if this is happening.  We have heard that some students are setting these "Meets" up for a social gathering.  Please continue to monitor these invitations as you would any other playdate for your child. Student accounts are only to be used for school purposes. Email accounts are only for teacher to student or student to teacher communication and should only be used if the teacher has instructed students to use email. Thank you.

School Offices
All physical buildings in the BSD are closed to the public. Employees will be working remotely. If you need to get in touch with someone at the school, please call our main line 603-627-1776 and leave a message. Messages will be returned within 24-36 hours. Email is the most efficient method of contacting the schools.

Attendance
Attendance will be taken daily.  It is our expectation that students will be working each day on the assignments prepared by their teachers.  If we see students did not do any work on a particular day they may be marked absent.  If a student is sick or unable to complete any work for the day you should call the attendance line and report the absence as usual.

Remote Learning Update
Yesterday, Governor Sununu required schools to continue with remote learning for the rest of the school year. He also recommended schools report a pass/fail reporting system. Bedford does not use letter grades at the elementary schools, but we will make the adjustments described below.

Please expect your child's fourth-quarter progress to be either "meeting district expectations" or "meeting some district expectations.” For those rare instances when students did not participate in remote learning, they may receive “not meeting district expectations.” Since the entire fourth quarter instruction has been under the conditions of remote learning, it is more difficult to provide a four-point reporting system as we had in the first three quarters of the year. Your child will also have a comment section from the teacher providing more detail.

Integrated Arts will also provide progress on the report card with "good" and "satisfactory". For those rare instances when students did not participate in remote learning, they may receive “needs improvement.”

Parents of kindergarten students will receive feedback on their child's progress exclusively in a narrative format.

Our elementary school report card is just one source of information to communicate student progress. As a parent, we continue to welcome your questions during the final two months of the school year regarding your child's performance.

Message of the Month
Kindness Counts- Empathy

Remote Learning Plan
Understanding that we cannot replicate the same education that would have happened if there had not been a Covid-19 pandemic, we are making an adjustment to our weekly schedule.   As a school, we are constantly looking for the best ways to support all students. We believe that utilizing a model that lends itself to greater flexibility will be beneficial for our school community.  Starting next week we will dedicate Friday to support the personalization of learning.  Please note, this is not a day off for students as they are expected to participate in their learning. Instead of receiving direct whole-class instruction, Friday is a day that may include targeted instructional opportunities and/or allow for more student choice and enrichment. Classroom teachers will provide choice activities, Mrs. Schmitt, our enrichment teacher, and Ms. Hodgdon, our guidance counselor, are developing options that will offer  students opportunities that extend beyond their current academic coursework. We are hopeful that this change to the remote learning schedule will assist in giving students a little less screen time and a little more choice in their learning.  Stay safe and be healthy!

Message of the Month
Kindness Counts- Empathy

Happy Friday to all!  I want to thank all of our families who are assisting with our Remote Learning plans as we try to move our kids forward with their learning.  We realize this has been a learning curve for all of us and we appreciate your patience and support.  Wish all of you a quiet weekend of fun.  Stay safe and be healthy!

Spirit Day
We will be having a weekly Remote Spirit Day each Friday.  Next Friday, April 10th, is Crazy Hair or School Colors Day! Feel free to send in pictures of them dressed up for our school website.

Playground Access
A reminder that students are not in school because we do not want people together in crowds. This is also true for school playgrounds, basketball courts, and fields. Allowing students to gather in large groups defeats the purpose.

Attendance
Attendance will be taken daily.  It is our expectation that students will be working each day on the assignments prepared by their teachers.  If we see students did not do any work on a particular day they may be marked absent.  If a student is sick or unable to complete any work for the day you should call the attendance line and report the absence as usual.
