Principal's Notes 4/10/2020

Message of the Month
Kindness Counts- Empathy

Remote Learning Plan
Understanding that we cannot replicate the same education that would have happened if there had not been a Covid-19 pandemic, we are making an adjustment to our weekly schedule.   As a school, we are constantly looking for the best ways to support all students. We believe that utilizing a model that lends itself to greater flexibility will be beneficial for our school community.  Starting next week we will dedicate Friday to support the personalization of learning.  Please note, this is not a day off for students as they are expected to participate in their learning. Instead of receiving direct whole-class instruction, Friday is a day that may include targeted instructional opportunities and/or allow for more student choice and enrichment. Classroom teachers will provide choice activities, Mrs. Schmitt, our enrichment teacher, and Ms. Hodgdon, our guidance counselor, are developing options that will offer  students opportunities that extend beyond their current academic coursework. We are hopeful that this change to the remote learning schedule will assist in giving students a little less screen time and a little more choice in their learning.  Stay safe and be healthy!

Spirit Day
For our weekly Remote Spirit Day next Friday, April 17th, wear your favorite team’s apparel to honor our sports teams that aren’t able to play right now.
Remember to send in pictures of them dressed up for our school website and Facebook page.

Parent Questionnaire
In order to calibrate and plan their weekly lessons, teachers will be sending out a very quick questionnaire to parents each Friday. It is very important that you complete it each week. It will be turned off Monday morning at 9:00 AM. Thank you!

Quarter 3
Report cards will be released on PowerSchool at 2:45 PM today. To access your child's report card online, log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal and you will see a Report Cards icon in the left hand pane. When you click on this icon your child's report card will appear on the screen. You can scroll to see the entire report card and choose to print it, if you'd like.

Placement
Even though we are working remotely, we are starting to think about placement for 2020/21. Please read THIS LETTER, which outlines the process.

Kids Heart Challenge

Destination Imagination Fundraiser
Spring cleaning? Please donate all of your old paired shoes/boots for our annual DI Fundraiser (no cleats or flip flops, please). Please write “Shoe Fundraiser” with a sharpie on the bag or on a tag/piece of paper and tape it to the bag. All clothing can be donated as well—no need to mark. Please do not overfill the bags as the slot cannot take a stuffed bag. BINS are located in all of the schools' parking lots. Please contact our DI Coordinator (Marie Russell) via email if you ever find one that is full. Thank you very much! bedfordrocksdi@gmail.com

Google Meet Uses
Some of our teachers are using Google Meet as a platform to interact with their students.  You, as a parent, will be notified if this is happening.  We have heard that some students are setting these "Meets" up for a social gathering.  Please continue to monitor these invitations as you would any other playdate for your child. Student accounts are only to be used for school purposes. Email accounts are only for teacher to student or student to teacher communication and should only be used if the teacher has instructed students to use email. Thank you.

Reminders

School Offices
All physical buildings in the BSD are closed to the public. Employees will be working remotely. If you need to get in touch with someone at the school, please call our main line 603-627-1776 and leave a message. Messages will be returned within 24-36 hours. Email is the most efficient method of contacting the schools.

Attendance
Attendance will be taken daily.  It is our expectation that students will be working each day on the assignments prepared by their teachers.  If we see students did not do any work on a particular day they may be marked absent.  If a student is sick or unable to complete any work for the day you should call the attendance line and report the absence as usual.
