Principal's Notes - February 17th

Dear Memorial Families,
Another snow day ... I think winter is happening in February. Kindergarten through fourth grade students have had the opportunity to work with Jeff Erwin from Trashcan Lid Productions. I hope they have talked to you about the music they are making. Fourth graders did a presentation to their families today ... what a treat. Thank you to all the families that were able to attend. Special thanks to the PTG for funding this Artist in Residence program.

NEW NEWS

Guidance Message
Word of the Month: Friendship
Week of February 13:
February 15: Phrase of the day: “Talk little.  Listen much”.  Being a good listener is an important friendly behavior.  We need to hear what others say to us, and ask questions to show we care. We also need to work things out when we disagree, using Kelso’s Choices, and a good face, good voice, and good words. Peacemaker Challenge: Listen to your friends and ask questions, to show you care. Work things out with a good face, good voice, and good words, and using Kelso’s Choices.
February 17: Random Acts of Kindness Day.  Quote of the Day (by Margaret Mead): “Never believe that a few caring people can’t change the world.  For, indeed, that’s all who ever have.”  When we do kind things not expecting a reward, we are rewarded anyway, by feeling good about ourselves and by having others feel good about us.  A recent study showed that kids who performed kind acts were better accepted and had more friends.  Random Acts of Kindness Day challenges us to “pay it forward” by helping to spread kindness, and be part of a ripple effect. Peacemaker Challenge: Be kind to all people, all day.

Invention Convention - 3rd and 4th Grade
The Invention Convention will be held next Monday, February 20 with a snow date of Wednesday, February 22. I don't know about you - but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for no snow! Parents of third and fourth grade students participating in the Invention Convention, please read the information in the attached Procedure Email to ensure that your child is registered. Information about the Invention Convention can be found on Mrs. Schmitt's website.

Bedford Food Pantry – Items Needed for Children
Food Insecurity is a growing concern across the nation and right here in our own backyard.  Nearly 350 adults and children in Bedford qualify for food stamps and more than 167 families in Bedford meet the income standards for the government’s free school lunch program.
In light of these numbers, the Bedford Food Pantry has started a new program, School Lunch Plus, to provide students in Bedford who face food insecurity two lunches each weekend (with complete privacy/anonymity).  In order to provide two lunches for each student in need, the Food Pantry is looking for donations of these specific items.
If you are able to donate these items (these are ongoing donations), please bring them by the Bedford Food Pantry at the Bedford Presbyterian Church, 4 Church Road, Bedford, NH.
Parents/guardians, please contact the school guidance counselor or school nurse if you would like your child to participate in this program.
