November 22: Gratitude Challenge: Think of five things you are thankful for.

Annual "Stuff the Turkey"
November is our Month of Kindness and Gratitude.  One way we would like to practice these important traits is by sponsoring our annual food drive.  From November 17 to December 16, Memorial School will be conducting our non-perishable "Stuff the Turkey" Food Drive.  Proceeds will go directly to the Bedford Community Food Pantry, currently housed at Bedford Presbyterian Church.  We greatly appreciate any canned or boxed donations you are able to give. Items such as canned proteins (meats, fish, vegetables, etc.), pasta, rice, peanut butter, jelly, rice, flour, sugar and cereal, are especially needed.  If you would like to join us in helping our Bedford pantry, please send the items into school with your child.  If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Pleat, X23206.  Thanks for helping us support Bedford families!

Principal's Notes - November 18th

Dear Memorial Families,
I have been reading Tough by Erin Frankel to third grade classes. The main character who has been mean throughout the story "discovers something really amazing" at the end of the story ... "When I show people I care - even just a little - they show they care back". What is truly amazing is how third graders are able to talk about being kind and know what kindness looks and feels like. What great children you are raising!

Principal's Notes - November 4th

Dear Memorial Families,
Next week is a busy week. There is no school on Tuesday for the children (Election Day) and no school on Friday for Veterans' Day. Report cards for quarter one are now available through the PowerSchool Parent Access Portal.

NEW NEWS

Guidance Message
Week of November 1:
Tuesday, November 1: Mrs. Pleat will build upon last month's themes of Responsibility and being a bully-free school of Upstanders.  The words of the month are Kindness and Gratitude.  The students will learn that Kindness and Gratitude are the “cures” for bullying and unkind behavior.  Each morning, students will be encouraged to perform a Kindness Challenge.  The Challenge will give them an opportunity to experience the joy of giving and acting in kind ways.  We hope they will discover the “magic” of kindness as it gives both, the giver and receiver, positive feelings, and it can create a climate of harmony, happiness and peace.  Students will learn that “It's COOL to be kind.”
Kindness Challenge: Say “good morning” to someone new.
Wednesday, November 2: Kindness Challenge: Pick up your toys at home.
Thursday, November 3: Kindness Challenge: Smile at 10 people throughout the day.
Friday, November 4: The phrase for the day is “Have an attitude of Gratitude.”  When we have a thankful “attitude of gratitude”, we feel happier about our lives.
Gratitude Challenge: Think of all the things you are grateful for.

Report Cards
Report Cards will be available online on November 4th at 2:30 in the PowerSchool Parent Access Portal. To access your child's report card online, log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal and you will see a Report Card icon in the left hand pane.

Blood Drive
A blood drive will be held on election day at Bedford High School in memory of  Bedford mom (whose children are still in the schools) who passed away from blood cancer last year.

Please click here for more information. They are looking for blood donors (anyone over age 17) and volunteers. BHS students could get community service hours.

All of the collections will be donated to the New Horizons Soup Kitchen in Manchester.  New Horizons gratefully uses these donations as dessert when they serve the homeless, and they also pass it along as a nighttime treat to those homeless guests staying in the shelter.  The goal of the drive is to make life a little sweeter for those less fortunate.  All donations can be placed in the marked box outside the office, which will be collected at the end of the school day on Monday, November 7th.
